FAQs
Caravan and Mobile Home insurance is a complicated business. There are bound to be questions you have about cover. We have made a start by including frequently asked questions on this page. If you need to know something that isn’t covered here, ask at the time of quotation.
Can I Get Immediate Cover?
If you have a credit or debit card, immediate insurance cover can usually be arranged.
Can I Tow Other Caravans?
That depends on the policy you have. Most comprehensive motor policies allow you to drive named vehicles or vehicles you have permission to drive on a third party basis. Check with your policy for the exact details.
What Do I Have to Disclose to Get Caravan Insurance?
We would say you have to disclose pretty much everything relevant. That includes any claims, penalty points, criminal convictions, illnesses that would affect towing your caravan and anything else that may influence an insurer.
You will be asked specific questions when asking for a quote or when buying a policy. Be honest and answer all questions fully and truthfully.
Does My Policy Cover Taking My Caravan Abroad?
Cover for foreign travel is policy dependent. That means you will have to check with your insurer if you are covered or not. If you think you’re likely to need European or worldwide cover, it’s best to ask for it when taking out the policy. That will save any administration fees some insurers charge to make changes.
How Old Does a Car Have to be to be a Classic?
This depends on the insurer, although generally a car older than twenty years old is regarded as a classic. This is an important detail, and one you should check on each classic car quote before you buy.
Can I Make Changes to My Policy?
You can make changes to your insurance policy during the policy term. Many insurers now charge an administration fee to make changes or amendments so please bear this in mind when considering changing anything.
You are legally and contractually obliged to notify the insurer of any changes that would affect the policy, such as address change, accident, penalty points and so on. Basically, if you change anything that is mentioned in your caravan insurance policy, tell the insurer.
Do I have to Notify the Insurer of an Accident if I’m Not Making a Claim?
Even if you’re not planning on making a caravan insurance claim, it pays to inform the insurer anyway. The insurance industry is built on record-keeping, and it pays to keep the records of you and your caravan as complete as possible.
